Schott ultraviolet transmitting filter glasses, (the UG-group), find wide use in UV-lighting situations. In this area, the simultaneous presence of visible radiation is frequently undesirable. Especially in the excitation of materials with ultraviolet radiation for producing visible luminescence the filter must guarantee a sufficiently strong suppression of the visible radiation of the radiation source. This can be achieved in UG 5 and UG 11, for example, by an appropriate selection of the filter thickness.
UG 5 filter glass is especially suited for the 254 nm line of a low pressure mercury lamp, while UG 11 is frequently used for the selection of the 365 nm mercury line.
The filter glass types are listed below. To view the linear transmission curves and data sheet for each, simply point and click on the glass type of your choice.
